Ghostburger
About This Spot
Stepping into Ghostburger in the heart of Shaw, Washington, DC, feels like slipping into a vibrant but unpretentious neighborhood gem where the scent of sizzling patties mingles effortlessly with casual laughter and the clink of glasses. The atmosphere settles somewhere between a lively bar and a laid-back American eatery, inviting you to slow down just a little while soaking in the easygoing pulse of the city around you.
The pace here is unhurried but lively—perfect for lingering over a well-crafted burger and a hand-spun milkshake or sharing plates with friends as the day winds into evening. The space is cozy without being cramped, encouraging relaxed conversations whether you’ve grabbed a spot inside or chosen to dine al fresco. It’s the kind of place where local regulars and visitors alike find themselves drawn to the warm, approachable vibe, and where ordering on your phone at the table feels like a small delight, letting you settle in and focus on the moment.
What distinguishes Ghostburger isn’t just the attention to flavor but the thoughtful way its menu feels like a personal invitation. The burgers come with a satisfying playfulness—from the crispy edges of a smash-style patty to the inventive sides like ghost fries layered with house-made cheese whiz and slow-cooked caramelized onions. There’s a rhythm to the menu that honors American classics while offering unexpected twists, whether it’s in their take on the Philly cheesesteak or the hand-spun milkshakes topped with fresh whipped cream and a touch of whimsy.
Even as the kitchen hums with order and movement, the atmosphere remains grounded and genuine. It’s a spot where you’re just as likely to hear the soft hum of conversations about DC’s past and present as you are to catch the sound of a perfectly timed pour from the bar. The approachable hospitality reflects a place focused on human moments—good food, thoughtfully made drinks, and the simple joy of sharing both.

The happy hour here is no joke, folks. $8 cocktails and the burgers are only $12 to start. I got the one on focaccia and it was solid. A bit tough to eat cleanly but it was delicious. Even after HH the beers are a great price. Really easy to order on your phone at the tables as well and they just bring the food out to you.

Wonderful and chill atmosphere, great service. Then the burgers are probably the best I've had in DC, thus far! They even nailed the crispy fries. Absolutely delicious meal.

We were in DC for a quick trip and happened upon Ghostburger. I love the order set up. We walked in and placed our order for dine in and found a nice little table. The food was really delicious. My only complaint is that there was no actual cheese available-American and “whiz” maybe there was blue cheese, but I’m not a blue cheese kind of person. So both me and my daughter opted for no “cheese” on our meals. The food was delicious. It was fresh. It was fast. The milkshake was tasty. I highly recommend - especially if you like “whiz.”

Sorry about the photo of empty plates, the food was delicious! 5 star burgers for the price of McDonald’s. Get a signature cocktail to sip on as you devour your ghost burger and one of their delectable sides. Top it off with a sweet treat like their ghost crispy treat. Dine inside or out while you enjoy the history of DC.

Really solid burgers here. The smash style has that great crispy edge and juicy bite, and the Ghostburger itself is packed with flavor. Fries came out hot and crunchy, which I loved. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is that it took a little longer than expected for the food to come out, and the space can feel a bit tight. Still, the quality of the burger and the fun flavor combos make this spot worth checking out.

Philly burger and sandwich joint. Never too packed which is nice and adjacent to a lot of great bars. Went in on a Friday and sat at the bar. Didn’t know they had cocktails and drinks which was a pleasant surprise. Got the Buffalo blue chicken sandwich which was great.
